Security designed before move-in day
An installer quoted $2,300 for a generic six-camera package before the drywall was up. We planned four positions from the builder’s floor plan instead.
The challenge
The family had a builder’s quote for a six-camera package priced without a single reference to the floor plan — plus a three-year monitoring contract attached to it.
- No plan for the garage-to-house door.
- No network design, so cameras would share the family WiFi.
- Cheapest moment to pre-wire was passing by the day.
The plan
Working straight from the builder’s PDF, before the walls closed:
- Four camera positions with mounting heights and pre-wire notes.
- Network drop points for a separate IoT network.
- A 21-point move-in checklist starting with re-keying every exterior lock.
- Device shortlist at three budget levels, commission-free.
The result
The house was protected on day one rather than week six, for $1,400 less than the quoted package — and with no monitoring contract.
The plan is a document they still own, ready to hand to any electrician.
