Three Smart-Lock Settings Most People Never Change

A smart lock out of the box is a convenience device. Three settings turn it into a security device.

Auto-lock timing

The default is often five minutes — or off. Set it to thirty seconds. A door that locks itself is the single cheapest upgrade in home security.

Per-person codes

One shared code tells you nothing. Individual codes for family, cleaner, and dog-walker give you an entry log that actually means something — and one tap revokes access when it should end.

Activity alerts

Turn on notifications for manual unlocks at unusual hours. That 3am entry alert is the whole point.
